The procedure is usually done in a doctor's office or outpatient clinic. You will lie on an examination table and a speculum will be inserted into your vagina to visualize the cervix. A local anesthetic is applied to numb the area. The wire loop is then used to remove the abnormal tissue, which is sent to a lab for further examination.
