Diagnosis of bowel injury can be challenging. Intraoperatively, direct visualization of a bowel tear or leakage of bowel contents can indicate injury. Postoperatively, patients may exhibit signs of peritonitis, such as fever, abdominal pain, and distension. Diagnostic imaging like a CT scan can be helpful in identifying the extent and location of the injury.
