The procedure varies depending on the type of biopsy:
Cervical Biopsy: Performed during a colposcopy, a special instrument called a colposcope is used to closely examine the cervix. Small tissue samples are then taken using a biopsy forceps. Endometrial Biopsy: A thin, flexible tube (pipelle) is inserted into the uterus through the cervix to collect a tissue sample from the endometrium. Ovarian Biopsy: Typically done laparoscopically, a small incision is made, and a camera and instruments are used to take a tissue sample from the ovary. Vulvar Biopsy: A numbing agent is applied to the vulva, and a small piece of tissue is removed using a scalpel or punch biopsy tool. Vaginal Biopsy: Similar to a cervical biopsy, a colposcope is used to examine the vagina, and a tissue sample is taken with biopsy forceps.
