Candidates for a trachelectomy are generally women diagnosed with early-stage cervical cancer, specifically stage IA2 or stage IB1. The tumor should be relatively small, usually less than 2 centimeters in diameter. Additionally, patients should not have lymph node involvement or evidence of cancer spread beyond the cervix.
