What Should Patients Expect During a 2D Ultrasound?
The process is relatively straightforward. For a pelvic ultrasound, patients may be asked to drink water beforehand to fill the bladder, which helps improve image quality. During the scan, a gel is applied to the abdomen (or a specialized probe is inserted vaginally for a transvaginal ultrasound) to facilitate the transmission of sound waves. The entire procedure typically takes about 20-30 minutes and is usually painless.
