The primary function of the fallopian tubes is to transport the egg from the ovary to the uterus. When an ovary releases an egg during ovulation, the egg enters the fallopian tube where it may meet sperm and become fertilized. The fertilized egg, or zygote, then travels through the tube to the uterus for implantation.
