A tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA) is a complex, multi-loculated collection of pus involving the fallopian tube, ovary, and occasionally adjacent pelvic organs. It is often a complication of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which is typically caused by ascending polymicrobial infection.
