A blastocyst is a structure formed in the early development of mammals. It is comprised of a fluid-filled cavity, a group of cells on the inside known as the inner cell mass, and an outer layer of cells called the trophoblast. Typically, the blastocyst stage is reached around five to six days after fertilization.
