If the HPV DNA test is positive, it means that high-risk HPV is present in the cervical cells. This does not mean that cancer is present but indicates a higher risk. Follow-up steps may include:
Repeat HPV testing in 12 months to see if the infection has cleared. Colposcopy, a procedure to closely examine the cervix for any abnormalities. Biopsy of any suspicious areas found during colposcopy.
