What are the risks associated with Dilation and Curettage (D&C)?
While D&C is generally safe, it does carry some risks:
- Infection: Rare but possible, especially if the procedure is not performed under sterile conditions. - Uterine Perforation: Accidental puncturing of the uterine wall, which may require additional surgery. - Scar Tissue: Formation of scar tissue in the uterus, known as Asherman's syndrome, which can affect fertility. - Bleeding: Heavy bleeding may occur post-procedure, though it is uncommon.
