What are the Risks Associated with Cervical Ripening?
While generally safe, cervical ripening does carry some risks:
- Hyperstimulation of the uterus, particularly with pharmacological methods, can lead to excessively frequent contractions, which might compromise fetal oxygenation. - Infection: Introducing foreign objects or substances into the cervix can increase the risk of infection. - Bleeding: Mechanical methods can sometimes cause cervical trauma, leading to bleeding.
