What are the Options for Women with BRCA2 Mutations?
Women identified with BRCA2 mutations have several options for managing their cancer risk. These include enhanced surveillance, such as more frequent pelvic exams and transvaginal ultrasounds. Prophylactic surgeries, such as a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of ovaries and fallopian tubes), can significantly reduce the risk of ovarian cancer. Additionally, preventive medications like oral contraceptives may also lower cancer risk.
