These drugs function by forming platinum-DNA adducts, which interfere with the DNA repair mechanism in cancer cells. This leads to apoptosis, or programmed cell death. By targeting the DNA, platinum-based chemotherapy can effectively kill rapidly dividing cancer cells while sparing most normal cells.
