Amnisure works by detecting placental alpha microglobulin-1 (PAMG-1), a protein found in high concentrations in amniotic fluid. The test involves inserting a sterile swab into the vagina to collect a sample of vaginal secretions. The swab is then placed into a vial containing a solvent, which releases the protein if it is present. A test strip is then inserted into the vial, and the appearance of a control line and a test line indicates a positive result for the presence of amniotic fluid.
