Once inserted into the vagina, the ring releases a continuous low dose of hormones over a period of three weeks. After three weeks, the ring is removed, and the user has a one-week ring-free interval during which they typically experience a withdrawal bleed similar to a menstrual period. After the one-week interval, a new ring is inserted to start the cycle again.
