LARCs prevent pregnancy through different mechanisms:
Hormonal IUDs release progestin, which thickens cervical mucus, inhibits sperm movement, and thins the uterine lining. Copper IUDs release copper ions, which are toxic to sperm and prevent fertilization. Subdermal implants release progestin, inhibiting ovulation and thickening cervical mucus.
