The general recommendation is that women should begin Pap smear screening at age 21. Women aged 21 to 29 should have a Pap smear every three years. For women aged 30 to 65, it is advised to have a Pap smear combined with an HPV test every five years, or a Pap smear alone every three years. Women over 65 with a history of regular screening and normal results may no longer need Pap smears, but this should be discussed with their healthcare provider.
