The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) is one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Established in 1962, its mission is to ensure that every person is born healthy and wanted, that women suffer no harmful effects from the reproductive process, and that all children have the chance to achieve their full potential for healthy and productive lives, free from disease or disability.
