Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) is a condition characterized by the loss of normal ovarian function before the age of 40. This condition is also sometimes referred to as premature menopause or primary ovarian insufficiency. Unlike typical menopause, which occurs around age 50, POI can result in irregular periods or amenorrhea and decreased fertility at a much younger age.
