What is Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndrome (HBOC)?
Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndrome (HBOC) is a genetic condition that significantly increases the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancers. This syndrome is primarily caused by mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. These genes normally help repair damaged DNA, but when they are mutated, they fail to function properly, leading to an increased cancer risk.
