Cervical insufficiency, also known as incompetent cervix, refers to a condition where the cervix begins to dilate (widen) and efface (thin) prematurely during pregnancy, usually without pain or contractions. This can lead to a preterm birth or loss of an otherwise healthy pregnancy.
