Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is a common vaginal infection caused by an imbalance in the vaginal flora. Normally, Lactobacilli bacteria dominate the vaginal environment, but in BV, there is an overgrowth of other bacteria like Gardnerella vaginalis. Symptoms include abnormal vaginal discharge, a fishy odor, and itching. BV increases the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and can impact pregnancy outcomes.
