There are primarily three types of liver biopsies:
Percutaneous liver biopsy: This is the most common type, where a needle is inserted through the abdominal wall to obtain a liver tissue sample. Transjugular liver biopsy: Performed when there are issues such as blood clotting disorders. A needle is inserted through the jugular vein in the neck. Laparoscopic liver biopsy: Performed during a laparoscopic surgery, allowing direct visualization of the liver tissue.
