Chronic yeast infections, also known as recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC), are defined as having four or more episodes of yeast infections in one year. These infections are caused by an overgrowth of the fungus Candida, most commonly Candida albicans. While occasional yeast infections are common and often easily treated, chronic infections can be more challenging to manage.
