The insertion of Nexplanon is a minor procedure that can be done in a doctorâs office. The area of the arm where the implant will be placed is numbed with a local anesthetic, and the device is inserted just under the skin using a special applicator. Removal is similarly a minor procedure, involving a small incision to take out the implant.
