OPKs work by measuring the level of LH in the urine. Most kits include test strips or digital readers that indicate when LH levels are elevated. When LH surges, it triggers the release of an egg from the ovary, a process known as ovulation. Testing typically begins a few days before the expected midpoint of the cycle and continues daily until the surge is detected.
