BRCA2 mutations significantly elevate the risk of several cancers:
Breast Cancer: Women with a BRCA2 mutation have a 45-69% lifetime risk of developing breast cancer, compared to about 12% in the general population. Ovarian Cancer: The lifetime risk for ovarian cancer in BRCA2 mutation carriers is approximately 10-30%, much higher than the 1-2% risk in the general population. Other Cancers: There is also an increased risk for pancreatic cancer, melanoma, and male breast cancer.
