How Are Mammogram Results Interpreted?
Mammogram results are usually categorized using the
BI-RADS
(Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System) scale, which ranges from 0 to 6:
0:
Incomplete - Additional imaging evaluation needed.
1:
Negative - No signs of cancer.
2:
Benign finding - Non-cancerous abnormalities.
3:
Probably benign - Follow-up in six months.
4:
Suspicious abnormality - Biopsy should be considered.
5:
Highly suggestive of malignancy - Appropriate action should be taken.
6:
Known biopsy-proven malignancy - Confirmed cancer.
