Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) - Gynecology

What is Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG)?

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone produced during pregnancy by the developing embryo and later by the syncytiotrophoblast (part of the placenta). It plays a crucial role in maintaining the corpus luteum, which in turn produces progesterone during the first trimester to sustain the pregnancy.
