What is Penetration Disorder?

Penetration disorder, also known as Genito-Pelvic Pain/Penetration Disorder (GPPPD), is a condition characterized by difficulties with vaginal penetration during intercourse. This disorder can result in significant pain and discomfort, impacting a woman's sexual health and overall quality of life.

What are the Symptoms?

The primary symptom of penetration disorder is pain during sexual intercourse. Other symptoms may include:
Discomfort or pain during tampon insertion
Pelvic pain unrelated to intercourse
Involuntary muscle spasms of the pelvic floor
Anxiety or fear related to vaginal penetration

What Causes Penetration Disorder?

There are multiple potential causes, which can be psychological, physiological, or a combination of both. Common causes include:
Vaginal Infections or inflammations
Hormonal changes such as those occurring during menopause
History of sexual trauma or abuse
Chronic medical conditions like endometriosis or interstitial cystitis
Poor lubrication
